Bags on Process

Dalam pembuatan tas kulit batik, banyak hal yang saya pelajari. Dulu saya kira membuat tas itu hanya berupa kulit, dipotong, jahit dan jadi. Ternyata tidak semudah itu. Para pengrajin saya harus membuat dummy dulu, kemudian dibuat polanya, dipilih bagian kulit mana yang akan dipotong karena tidak semua kulit berkualitas baik dan juga harus pintar memilih area potong supaya sisa potongan dapat digunakan kembali, belum lagi memotong bagian batik tulis yang cocok dengan tas. Tidak sekali saya melakukan perombakan terhadap tas yang telah saya buat karena merasa tidak sempurna. Pernah saya lakukan 3x perombakan sampai saya rasa ini sempurna dalam kacamata seni saya. Well... perfection in art is always in the eye of the beholder after all...

Maka terkadang pada produksi tas leather-batik bags seperti HAPS ini, dimana produksi tidak dilakukan secara massal, memerlukan waktu lebih dibanding tas kulit biasa yang ada di pasaran. Tapi dibalik kesempurnaan selalu ada kepuasan seperti yang saya rasakan. Saya PUAS. Dan saya sangat menghargai orang-orang yang mampu melihat kepuasan saya dalam suatu bingkai seni . Tapi lagi-lagi saya yakin,.. Whut is ART? ART is in the eye of the beholder. And to me, HAPS is an ART...

Sapanti on 'Rupadi' bag

Selama masih terus memiliki bahan batik sapanti, mari kita terus berkarya :) Kali ini sapanti dipasangkan dengan large tote bag. Tadinya saya berpikir untuk membuat super humongous large tote, tapi ternyata bahan kulitnya gak sebesar yang saya kira.

Untuk membuat tas budaya ini makin terlihat bila disandingkan dengan luasnya kulit yang dipakai, saya kemudian menyiasati batik sapanti dengan di quilting. Jadilah hasilnya seperti batik timbul. Dan untuk lebih memperjelas saya beri garis kulit berwarna emas di sepanjang sisinya. Hasilnya??? Solo Pattern
